Learn the differences

  • A Leporello is a design of book/pamphlet that is made from the zig-zag or accordion folding pattern of a singular piece of paper, typically A4.

The design is traditionally a two-sided consecutive design.

I like to think of a close cousin of leporellos to be pamphlets because of the simplicity in their design.

  • Zines are similar to Leporello’s in their creation from the folding of a page. The differences being in the folding patterns and the production of the piece. Zines traditionally are small circulation print products, they are minimal profit items and have no limitation on print, page or design quantities. I like to think of them as miniaturised comics.

  • Comic’s are much more commonly known being a visual accumulation of one story or chapters of a story classed as issues.

Typically aimed at children and young people because of the vivid colours and easily read stories, not needing to imagine how it look but rather just reading the communication, however over time it has developed into a vast genre.
